The Visionary
Behind Tumandok
In 1987, Josephine’s journey began with a spark of inspiration from a local seminar on “How to Start a Business.” She founded a company named Tumandok Crafts Industries. Tumandok is a Hiligaynon word meaning “native inhabitant,” to honor the products and the community from which the business grew. The name expresses the company’s rootedness in local craftsmanship and its consistency in serving the community through meaningful work, creativity, and skill.
Her vision was simple yet profound: to transform local and waste materials into beautiful and useful handicrafts such as picture frames, vases, lamps, and tables. Each piece is lovingly handmade by artisans, fostering creativity and skill. Tumandok represents what Josephine has always believed: innovation does not erase identity; it can strengthen it.
Josephine faced many challenges, including multiple relocations and a devastating factory fire. Yet, her determination never wavered because her business was not just about profit but stewardship and community empowerment as well. It was business with a purpose, God’s purpose.
Today, Tumandok Crafts Industries operates a 3,000-square-meter facility with 27 dedicated employees. Its core values, Love of God, Accountability, Respect for Creation, Integrity, Service to Community, and Excellence, are at the heart of its work.
These values reflect the company’s heritage, discipline, commitment to community, and consistency in its mission. They guide the way Tumandok develops its products, works with its artisans, and serves its customers.
Josephine’s commitment to her team and community has led Tumandok to become one of Partners Worldwide’s newest Local Community Institutions. Through this connection, local artisans have greater access to global markets and essential training.
True craftsmanship is a gift from God. At Tumandok, Christ-centered values shape the way artistry is expressed. Culture is preserved with excellence, creativity is expressed with integrity, and every handcrafted piece reflects the skill, service, and faith behind its making.
Looking ahead, Tumandok Crafts Industries plans to create a training center within its facility, where local artisans and entrepreneurs can learn to grow their own redemptive businesses.
